Nikki: Welcome to this week's episode of Vetiver Vibes. Nikki Fraser here with Rachael Jean and this week we're talking about lime essential oil profile to me I always think um what's that one song the lime in the coconut yeah that's it all literally I say with the word lime and that pops into my head um but Before we dive into everything about Lyme, how has your week been going, Rachael?

Rachael: Week was good. Week was good. Very busy. And I'm sure I've said it before, but when I'm stressed, which is generally my life, I tend to live in a stressful state of mind and state of being all the time, which I know is maybe not the best but it is kind of how I thrive so it's you know a bit of a catch-22 for me um but when I'm super stressed I kind of hold all my stress in my shoulders and my neck and what have you um and so I think I was talking last week about the the pain blend I had um but last week we were talking we did a card poll and it was marjoram and so I decided to go dig that one out because I remembered that I love marjoram and I forgot about it. You know, just kind of, there's, there are so many oils, and I have so many oils, and I've learned about so many oils. So, you know, sometimes I forget to kind of re, you know, bring everything up. So I used the card pool last week, I dug up the marjoram, and I added that to made a new blend and added that to it and really found it helpful. So marjoram, I know we're talking about lime, but marjoram has a nervine in it, and it's an analgesic, so it definitely just kind of helped kind of take off the… Just the aches and pains. The aches and pains, exactly. Yeah, it just made it a little bit easier, so yeah.

Nikki: and that's why we love the card pulls though is because we do have a lot of oils and oftentimes we kind of get into that routine of going and pulling for the same ones over and over because they're just their type thing and you know that's what we're comfortable with And so that's why I love the Card Pulse is it gets me out of my head and it sometimes has me reaching for oils that I don't necessarily reach for often, or you just kind of forget about, you go through phases. I always go through phases of all kinds of different things and oils included. And so it kind of helps bring some of those oils you may have not used in a little bit back to the forefront. So that's awesome. yeah so what oils were you using or how was your week nikki um actually i it's been a good week but i don't know i don't know if it's just kind of like where i am in my cycle but i was just like i feel really pretty this week or something and you look really pretty i oh i don't know about that my hair's oh no no my hair is my normal straight pin straight hair um you look gorgeous but uh so i've been using actually my ylang ylang hydrolat um it's it's i don't wear perfume i don't do a lot of scented stuff in that retrospect um and i work at home by myself unless i have clients on my, on my couple days a week that I'm seeing clients and things like that. But it's just something that I've been using almost every morning. I get down into my office and I give a spritz into the air and I walk through it as kind of my, my body mist. And I've been really enjoying it. Yeah. And it just kind of, I can't use a lot of Ylang Ylang because I will get a headache if I'm using a lot of the oil, but that's where I find the Hydrolat is just a nice, gentle aroma. It's not overpowering, and it's kind of that nice body spray, which is why I love the Hydrolats also.

Rachael: They are great for that, for sure. I agree. I think my favorite is Noroli Hydrolat, which we were talking about last time. But, well, we didn't talk about the Hydrolat, but that oil. And I love, yeah, they're great. They're just very light.

Nikki: Yeah, and you can use them with babies, with elderly, health compromised, like so many different things. And instead of, you know, heavy perfumes, things like that, which I know we can, we could go on a huge tangent of HydroLats. And I don't know if we've ever done actually a podcast on HydroLats. So I think we're going to have to add that to our list of things to talk about more. Seems like maybe one we can add to 2025. Yeah, I'm just like, I don't know if we've ever done one on that. But today we're going to talk about lime. So if you're on YouTube, you can see the lime in our background.

Rachael: Most people I think know what a lime looks like.

Nikki: Yes.

Rachael: You're at the, they put them in your diet Coke or your drinks at the- Your Corona. Your Corona. Yeah, my husband doesn't like the lime in the Corona. He wants it naked or whatever you call it. I don't know.

Nikki: When I used to drink and would grab a Corona, always better with the lime, in my opinion. But it's been many years since I've had them.

Rachael: I don't like beer. Any beer, Corona or anything else, no beer for me. I do probably like some of those drinks where you're putting the lime in the coconut. I could probably handle that. Especially if I was down south enjoying the sun.

Nikki: Yes, absolutely. So the botanical name with lime is Citrus erontifolia.

Rachael: And you can find lime in where it's harvested from Mexico, Florida, Brazil, Peru, and Italy. And the part of the plant that it comes from is the rind. So it's that outside part. So the part that you're peeling off, it's coming from there.

Nikki: Yeah, those little juice pockets kind of just underneath when you're peeling it and that's why you get the smell when you're peeling it for that exact reason. And the chemical constituents are very high in monoterpenes, about 80% of the oil is monoterpenes. meaning it's a gentler oil and it's well tolerated by the skin and body when used safely. It's very big as a detoxifier, so helping to reduce fluids throughout the body. It's antimicrobial. It's really, really good for the digestive system, acting as a tonic for it. And when we say digestive system, we're still talking about topical application. I just want to stress that. Um, because I have heard comments of like the digestive system. So are you drinking it? No, no, no. It's still always topical application. So I am stressing that. Um, and really good as a disinfectant as well.

Rachael: Yeah. So physically, you can use it for the digestive system we're talking about, upset stomach. So if you're bloated, indigestion, cramping, it's great to add to a blend of maybe some other digestive oils and just apply topically diluted. Also great for coughs and colds and fevers. Definitely one that's used in a lot of cleaning products. People love smelling it. It's very fresh scent. But it's also antimicrobial. And it also can be helpful in minor wounds, cuts, and scrapes.

Nikki: Again, coming back to that antimicrobial, right? So if you have any kind of minor wounds, any like a boo-boo spray type thing I always like to think of, it'll be really, really great for that too. It was one, every now and then I would add it to, I had a few different boo-boo sprays when my kids were younger, but they weren't actually sprays, they were in an oil base, but always nice to, it was one of them definitely had the lime in it. And then emotionally, stress reducing, reducing mental clarity can really just help lift that fog a little bit, feel more alert, bringing joy and inner peace.

Rachael: Yes, it's another one of those happy oils. So I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but happy oils is kind of what I personally always go back to. That is how I got into essential oils. I found that they just brought me joy in a very low time. And when I was having my actual clinic, it was called Happy Oils. That was the name of my business. So yeah, so any of my Happy Oils, you'll definitely hear that just because that's my go-to for sure.

Nikki: And it is just that uplifting, though. It reminds me of summer, which to me is happy time.

Rachael: Yeah, so it's great. It's great in the winter and the dark months, just to help bring you out of some of those darker places and to remind you of some of those happier, uplifting times. So yeah, absolutely. If you want to use spiritual subtle aromatherapy, it definitely helps with can help clear and cleanse the room of unwanted energies.

Nikki: good for times of transition and change and supports the solar plexus heart and third eye chakras yeah and it's also really cooling and drying to help eliminate any heat damp or phlegm which is why it helps the digestive system the respiratory system all those things right um it's it's when we have a lot of heat and dampness in the body that those things tend to come up so it helps cool down dry that out and helps strengthen the shen, which is when it's out of balance, we feel that agitation, fatigue, irritability, restlessness, anxiety, headaches maybe, things like that. So if you're feeling those, then your shen could be out of balance, which then lime can help just bring that balance back in, which is really, really nice.

Rachael: There are some safety concerns with Lyme. So generally, Lyme is photosensitive. So you don't want to use it above a 0.7% dilution. So that means not even 1%. So like under 1%. And that's because photosensitivity means that you can

Nikki: burn easier you get like brown marks on your body and stuff like that and you do not want you do not want to know your skin pigmentation changes which that's not what we want and um like i remember stories there's always stories on the radio actually too of just people outside because it's It's high for margaritas and bars would, I remember in my very much younger days, were saying to be careful because in a heat wave, people were outside on patios drinking margaritas with their limes and were actually getting reactions just from the amount of limes that they were using. And knowing that essential oils are that much more potent, even more so why we need to keep it at that 0.7%.

Rachael: Yeah, now there is a distilled lime you can get that you can use to avoid the photosensitizing effects that express lime has. But most of the essential oil, lime essential oil that you're going to get is an express lime. So there, you know, if you're an aromatherapist, and you're making specific blends that you want to make sure people can use safely outside of, you know, when they're outside, you might want to invest in the distilled lime. But generally, most people don't actually have that around. Yeah.

Nikki: No. And fun facts is that back in the day when boats was more of our mode of transportation, British sailing vessels always kept a big supply of limes on board to help prevent scurvy. Because before we knew exactly what scurvy was and vitamins and all that aspect. And so they always had lime and lime juice available for, I want to say pirates, not pirates, but I'm like pirates in my head. Well, the pirates might have also had some lime.

Rachael: They might have learned to. It takes approximately 1,000 to 1,500 limes to produce one kilogram of essential oils, which is about one liter of cold pressed lime essential oil. So for a 15 milliliter bottle, which is what we typically will have, it equates to about 15 to 22 limes are in each bottle.

Nikki: Yeah, so nice little amount of limes in a bottle. And the affirmation that we are going to share with you about limes, so if you are feeling drawn to lime, then you can take a nice in deep breath, I embrace change with clarity and joy, feeling light, refreshed, and ready for new possibilities.

Rachael: Love that. And then our card pull for the week, we are going to use the Aromatherapy Insight Cards for Intunitive Aromatherapy by Jennifer Jeffries and illustrated by Karen Osborne. So we are going to pull from this lovely deck today. I'm going to shuffle and see which card feels like the card of the week. Maybe I can get another great one that I can try next time. So let's see. This one is today's card. Patchouli, interesting. Oh, look, it's green background. It just blends very nicely into our backgrounds today. Oh, look at Nikki's face.

Nikki: My face shows gross. One day, I hope to embrace Patchouli one day. I'm not there yet. Every now and then I try.

Rachael: I do like Patchouli. in small batches like you know like a little bit at a time but patchouli is a beautiful oil so this for the people who are just listening it is a woman brunette she has a little um kind of crown wrapped around her head with a jewel in it, and she's kind of holding her hands together, and she's definitely contemplating something. So let's see what Patchouli has to say for us. Maybe we should say that Nikki has to smell her patchouli or something at least before next time.

Nikki: I was like, you know what? You inspired me. I'm like, I actually do. I'm going to use the oil this week. I won't forget. Because sometimes I'm like, yes, I'm going to use it. It just the days fly by so fast and then I forget But yeah, I can't Like when I'm blending for clients and they say that they like patchouli and I'm like in my head I'm like really Do you really like it? Do we really have to go with the patchouli? And then I quickly make the blend and I cap it all real quick. And then I go and grab another oil to replace that aroma in my nose.

Rachael: I find patchouli is great because it I don't know. I mean, it's a hippie oil as far as I'm concerned, too. It reminds me of just that kind of vibe. But it does get better with age. So you want your patchouli to just age. Let it just get older and older and older. So maybe you just don't like your young patchouli that's in your box. And give it another couple of years, and you're going to fall in love.

Nikki: I don't know. My patchouli is a few years old, and it still smells like mothballs to me. I don't know. Somehow you fell in love with geranium. Oh, I hated geranium also at the beginning. I couldn't stand geranium. It was only one tiny step above patchouli until my last pregnancy. And then it's like hormones shifted and it was like, nope, geranium.

Rachael: Maybe patchouli will become your oil one day. Who knows?

Nikki: Maybe.

Rachael: Never say never. All right, so patchouli is for unity. Feeling trapped in one of many areas of your life and feeling like those areas are not working together. Patchouli unites all levels of your existence, allowing you to focus and bring heart and head to work together. Rising above self-imposed barriers and enjoying all that life presents. Patchouli awakens a sense of peace that reaches into all areas of your life. Don't get ruffled and caught in a false ego. Stay self-assured and realize your real strength lies in being you. I like that. And I agree. Your strength does definitely. It's about you. You know, if you bring you to the world and don't hide that. you're going to be much better off. Physical benefits. Patchouli is a nerve stimulant. Let's try that one again. Physical benefits. Patchouli is a nerve stimulant that is particularly helpful for mature skin. Oh, there's that mature skin again, as it has rejuvenating properties. Patchouli enhances seductivity. Ooh. It's a base note for your chakra. It helps with the sacral and color vibration is orange.

Nikki: I'm like, do I try it? I will try it this week. I dare you.

Rachael: I will at least get the bottle out and smell it.

Nikki: And yeah, and I'll report back on our next one. For our next oil profile.

Rachael: Yeah.

Nikki: Putting myself out there for you guys, just so you know. All right, well, I think we will wrap that up here with our joy of lime and our tolerance for patchouli, my tolerance for patchouli.

Rachael: I love patchouli, I think it's fine.
